Raven Con

I am officially going to my first writer's convention. I am looking forward to meeting like minded people who won't think I'm a complete nut for thinking that I can one day be a published writer.

Friends and family are supportive but, there's nothing like being surrounded by people of your own kind. I think it will be both inspirational and motivational.

With the publishing world being hit with the financial crisis like everyone else this past week, I could use all the encouragement possible.

One of my blog friends Marcia Colette is going to be speaking on one of the writer's panels. How cool is that? I'm also taking my daughters with me. I've already explained to them that there will be some nerdy, some geeky and some die hard fans that will dress totally out as one of their favorite characters from a book or movie series.

One of my other blog friends got to go to the the ultimate, the New York Comic Con and was able to meet my all time favorite author Kim Harrison. (Sigh) Kim even thanked her on her drama page for giving her the You Tube video that features Kim talking about short stories vs long stories. You can click on the cover of White Witch Black Curse to find the link to her video on the right of my page.

Last but, not least, Kim has the first five chapters up for your reading pleasure at EOS publishing. You can also click on this link at her website. I haven't read it yet. I'm saving it as an after work treat:)

Later,
Melissa

Your first convention! I'm sure you'll have a blast. I truly enjoyed my last convention (it was actually my second, but I want to sound important *grin*). Well, take some pictures and some notes to share. I will share my notes from Comic Con this weekend. I'm sure you've noticed me whining about my Internet being down, so I'm not posting as often as I usually do. But the notes are really good--even the side commend made by a mean guy who was badmouthing LK Hamilton :( I was so very proud of our favorite writer. She sure shut him up, with a whole lot of class :)

Oh, was I not suppose to admit being a convention newbie? I know I'll have fun and maybe meet some new people.

Kim is so classy. LK Hamilton is one of my favorites also.

Woohooooooooooooo! I can't wait to see you there. This will be my first RavenCon and probably not my last. I've heard such great things about it as an up and coming conference. We're going to have a blast!!

I would've love to have gone to NY's Comic Con. Talk about having a fun time. I think I would've melted in my shoes if I had met LKH and Kim Harrison. In fact, I almost did when I saw them at RT back in 2006. Hint, hint. That's why RT is so awesome. You get all of your favorites in one room, so get your drool bags ready. ;-)

UPDATE!

I got a look at the Workshops for RavenCon and they look awesome! Cocked full of fun, juicy stuff and they're not shying away from things like urban fantasy and horror. Right down my twisted alley, if you ask me. ;-) I have no idea which panels I'll be on yet, but I've narrowed it down to eight. Needless to say, urban fantasy was at the top of my list.

Melissa, I can't wait to see you there. Magaly, we'll take pictures. I promise.

Marcia,
My daugthers are excited too. I am soooo, excited about going to Raven Con. Don't forget to keep me updated. I don't want to miss you on your panel.
I know what you mean about getting the chance to meet Kim or Laurell. When I saw Magaly's picture with Kim, I was so bummed that I didn't get a chance to go but, I was so happy for her because I know that Kim is one of her favorite authors.
I'm looking forward to see you at Raven Con, taking lots of pictures and having a great time:)
